World Athletics Championships slated for August 19, Budapest will have mouthwatering cash prizes with more than 2000 athletes from over 200 countries participating in the lucrative global showdown.
World Athletics will award an individual winning gold $70,000 (about Shs256m), the runner-up (silver) will pocket $35,000(Shs128m), and a bronze medallist take home $22,000(about 81m).
The prize money remains the same from the 2022 World Athletics Championships, Eugene, Oregon, USA, spread up to the eighth-place finisher walking away with Shs18m.
Outside the podium bracket, the fourth-placed will earn $16,000(about Shs58m) while a fifth-place finisher will take home $11,000(Shs40m).
Sixth, seventh and eighth-place finishers will respectively collect $7,000(about Shs26m), $6,000 (about Shs22m) and $5,000 (about Shs18m).
In relay events, the winning team will take $80,000( Shs290m) while the runner-up team will pocket $40,000 (about Shs148m ), and third place will take $20,000 (about Shs73m).
The team that secures fourth place will get $16,000 (Shs58m). The fifth, sixth, seventh, and last finishers will respectively bag $12,000(Shs44m), $8,000 (Shs29m), $6,000(Shs22m), and $4,000 (Shs15m).
World record setters will receive a special award of $100,000 (Shs365m) plus the cash prize for the podium finish.
Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo are expected to lead Uganda's medal hunt, taking part in 5,000m and 10,000m distances.
Uganda secured one gold and two bronze medals during the world championships in Oregon last year.
Cheptegei claimed gold in the 10,000m event, Kiplimo won bronze in the 5,000m, and Oscar Chelimo emerged victorious in the 5,000m.

ATHLETICS Cheptegei, Kiplimo for World Athletics Championships double as Uganda confirms final team
Uganda's long-distance stars Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo will compete in both 5,000m and 10,000m at the World Athletics Championships, Budapest, Hungary, scheduled to be held from 19 to 27 August 2023 at the National Athletics Centre.
