The trio of Favour Ofili, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, and Rosemary Chukwuma are Nigeria's highest-ranked athletes on the 2024 world's Toplist.

Despite a disappointing 2024 season for Nigeria athletics, athletes: Favour Ofili, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, and Rosemary Chukwuma were a beacon of hope as they ended the year as the country's highest-ranked athletes on the world's Toplist

The trio finished in the top 10 of the world's Toplist in their respective events, thus ending the season in the elite league of the world's best and giving Nigerian athletics enthusiasts something to brag about.

Favour Ofili

The speed sensation was unarguably Nigeria's best sprinter this year, having made her first professional season a memorable one by winning most of her races and getting to the Olympic 200m final in Paris.

Ofili won the Nigerian 100m title among many other accomplishments, but her highlight of the season came in the Olympic 200m semifinal, where she blazed to a blistering time of 22.05s to finish second in the race and make Nigeria's first Olympic final in the event in 28 years.

This time is ranked seventh on the world's Top 10 list, making her one of the fastest women in the event this year. Sadly, Ofili narrowly missed out on a podium placement with a sixth-place finish in the final clocking 22.24s behind bronze medallist Brittany Brown in 22.20s.

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi

In a season where most Nigerian athletes failed to deliver in all ramifications, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi stood tall among his peers and is unarguably the Athlete of the Year.

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi successfully defended his African Games Shot Put title in Ghana

The Nigerian Shot Put record holder became the first thrower from the country to qualify for a Diamond League final, which he gave a good account of himself with an impressive distance of 21.29m to finish fifth in the men's Shot Put final, thus making it 21 times he has gone over the 21.00m mark this year.

However, his best performance of the season came at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League in May, where he smashed his Nigerian record with a new mark of 21.91m - just 6cm short of Robberts African Record of 21.97m.

This mark is ninth on the world's top 10 list and he also finished sixth in the men's Shot Put final at the Paris Olympic Games.

Rosemary Chukwuma

A Paris Olympics 100m semifinalist, Rosemary Chukwuma clocked an impressive personal best of 10.88s to win her 100m heat at the NCAA West Preliminaries.

Rosemary Chukwuma

This time will not just rank in the top 10 of the world's fastest women in 2024 but propels her as the second-fastest Nigerian female sprinter in history behind the legendary Blessing Okagbare.
