The race organisers of the 2024 Valencia Marathon have announced that more than Ksh 150 million will be awarded to athletes who break world records.
Race organisers have already announced the prize money structure for the 2024 Valencia Marathon a few weeks after the conclusion of the 2023 edition of the event.
In case an athlete breaks the men’s course record that currently stands at 2:01:48, they will walk away with an additional Ksh 5,090,400. The prize money also applies to the athlete who manages to break the women’s course record time of 2:14:58.
The race organisers have also announced that athletes who break the world record, either in the women’s or men’s race will walk away with Ksh 169,680,000.

ATHLETICS Over Ksh15 million up for grabs for Daniel Simiu and co. in India's race
More than Ksh15 million has been set aside as prize money for the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K.
Just like during this year’s edition of the race, the top twelve athletes will be awarded prize money according to the times the winners of the race will post.
It was also noted that the prizes will be paid whenever times less than 2:20:00 in the men’s category and 2:45:00 in the women’s category are achieved.
Men who achieve a time between 2:20:00 and 2:35:00 and women who achieve a time between 2:45:00 and 2:55:00 will have a 50% reduction in their prize.
“Prizes will not be paid to men who finish in over 2:35:00 and to women who finish in over 2:55:00. The prizes for the general ranking, Spanish nationality, and FACV licence are cumulative.
All elite or World Athletics Label athletes will have to be admitted by the organisers in order to control the size of the event,” the statement from the organisers read.
There will also be mandatory anti-doping controls and any runner who, having been nominated to pass control, refuses to do so, will be automatically disqualified in all the categories and prizes to which they may be entitled and their decision will be formally reported to the competent bodies within the RFEA.

American sprint legend Michael Johnson has continued his criticism over what he terms a flawed and disrespectful approach by World Athletics to split the 2023 Athlete of the Year awards
The organisers also explained that athletes who pass this control and who are entitled to prize money will have to wait for the result of the control to receive their prize money.
All cash prizes will be subject to the withholdings established by law, the amount being paid by bank transfer or cheque once the times and results have been officially recognised by the RFEA after the relevant anti-doping controls.
“Athletes who collect the World Record prize will NOT be eligible to collect the prizes for winning this race or breaking the circuit record,” the statement also explained.
