The 2024 track and field season has taken its shape but some of the greatest athletes are yet to descend on the track for their season opener.
Being an Olympic season, fans were expecting athletes to open their seasons quite early but to their surprise, most world medallists and Olympic medallists opened their seasons late with some are even yet to open their seasons.

Double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah, Jamaican star Shericka Jackson and 400m Hurdles world record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone are some of the athletes who opened their seasons late after pulling out of meets earlier in the season.

The double world record holder intended to open her season at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen, the series opener of the Diamond League.
Kipyegon, the three-time world 1500m champion was then confirmed for the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting in Eugene, but had to pull out of the event due to an injury. Fans are now eagerly waiting for the track star to open her season.

Last season, the 30-year-old was in a class of her own, shattering three world records, the 1500m, 5000m, and the one mile, competing in the Diamond League Meetings. She then won two gold medals, 1500m and 5000m, at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
This Olympic season, Kipyegon has plans to win her third Olympic title in the 1500m but is unsure on competing in the 5000m at the event.
2) Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce

Fans are eagerly waiting for the Jamaican sprint star to open her season as she gears up to retire after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The multiple world champion enjoyed a great season last year, despite dealing with an injury. She managed to win a bronze medal in the 100m, failing to defend her title. Last season, she was forced to start her season late following her injury woes but this season, fans eagerly await her season opener.
3) Athing Mu

The reigning Olympic champion is yet to open her season, following her withdrawal from two core events she had signed up. Mu intended to open her season at the LA Grand Prix but unfortunately withdrew from the event.
The former world champion then confirmed participation at the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting in Eugene but she withdrew from the race.
