Here is a list of track and field events that will make the 2024 season unforgettable for athletics enthusiasts.

The 2024 track and field season has numerous subplots to look forward to with six global championships and the ever-expanding one-day meeting circuits spread throughout the year.

After a long off-season break, athletes will be renewing their rivalries in different events and record-breakers will be out to continue their hot streaks.

Athletes who did not perform well last season will also be looking to improve on their performance in their respective disciplines.

World Athletics

1) Paris 2024 Olympic Games

Athletes will be gearing up for the biggest event on the planet this year. The Olympic Games return to France after 100 years and athletes are bubbling with enthusiasm ahead of the global showpiece.

As reported by World Athletics, 2000 athletes from about 200 countries will compete for medals in 48 disciplines from August 1 to 11.

2) World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24

The first global assignment for track and field enthusiasts will be the World Indoor Championships scheduled for Glasgow, Scotland from March 1 to 3.

The event will be the first global track and field championships of the year and athletes are ready to rumble at the event as they gear up for the Olympic Games. World records have been set at the indoor championships and this year might witness more wonder.

3) World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24

Team Kenya will be hoping to shine at the World Relays Championships in Nassau, Bahamas. From May 4 to 5, the athletes will be vying to secure their place in the 4x100m, 4x400m, and mixed 4x400m for the Olympic Games since the event will be an Olympic qualifier. Expectations of nations rest on their shoulders – and their baton exchanges.

4) World Athletics Cross Country Championships

Athletes will also be gearing up for the World Cross-country Championships to be held in Belgrade, Serbia on Saturday, March 30.

The Serbian capital hosted the World Indoor Championships successfully, and will this year play host to the world’s best cross-country runners.

5) World Athletics U20 Championships

After successfully hosting the 2022 World Under-20 Championships in Cali, Colombia, World Athletics will be keen to host the 2024 edition of the event in Lima, Peru.

The event will take place from August 27 to 31 and will showcase the world’s most promising up-and-coming stars.

6) World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships

For the first time ever in the history of these championships – including all previous iterations – Turkiye will play host to the World Race Walking Team Championships on April 21. 

The first 22 teams at the global event will automatically qualify for the marathon race walk mixed relay – the newest Olympic discipline – at the Paris Games.

7) Diamond League Meetings

The Diamond League Meetings will also promise to be thrilling and will guarantee athletes the greatest avenues to showcase their talents.

The first meeting will begin at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen, China on April 20 and the final leg will be held in Brussels, Belgium from September 13 to 14. In the middle of the two events, there will be 13 events that will have packed actions for athletes.

8) Continental Tour Events

One of the most thrilling events will be the Kip Keino Classic which will be held at the Moi International Sports Center in Kasarani.

Last year’s edition of the event attracted some of the greatest runners and field athletes from across the globe and this year’s edition of the event will be no exception.

World Athletics also has so many other continental one-day meetings that will enable athletes to showcase their talents.
