Former American sprinter Justin Gatlin has revealed the one thing about Noah Lyles’ running this season that has taken him by surprise.

Noah Lyles defends Christian Coleman, Sha'Carri Richardson & Fred Kerley following worrying outdoor season starts
Lyles has defended his compatriots Christian Coleman, Fred Kerley and Sha'Carri Richardson following their shaky outdoor season starts.
With the Olympic Games in Paris just around the corner, Lyles is a favourite, especially in the 200m, where he has secured back-to-back world titles over the past two seasons.
In a recent episode of his "Ready Set Go" podcast, Gatlin expressed his amazement at Lyles' ability to maintain such high-speed performance early in the season, particularly as many of his peers and rivals have struggled to find their form.
"I was surprised he was capable of running fast this early," Gatlin admitted. "Team USA held the lead in the Bahamas for the World Relays, and he didn't have to give it his all, but now we are clearly seeing what his all-in efforts look like.
"It's giving us signs that he is on course to run some very fast 200s this season already."

International Olympic Committee boss criticises World Athletics' decision to offer prize money at Paris Olympics
The International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach has slammed World Athletics' idea of awarding gold medallists instead of channeling the money to developing the sport.
Gatlin further elaborated on Lyles' potential to break records, including Usain Bolt's legendary 200m mark.
He believes Lyles' current trajectory positions him well to achieve his long-term goals.
"That is his marquee event and something you cannot really stray away from," Gatlin noted. "I am glad that he is still keeping that strength and speed base for his 200s.
"It is only going to pour into his 100s even more, so clearly, he is on the mark for what he needs to do."
