The 3,000m steeplechase specialist is in a race against time to clock the qualifying mark for the global event as he seeks his first stab at senior ranks

Former world Under-20 3,000m steeplechase champion Amos Serem is keen on leaving a mark on the global stage as he works around the clock to make the cut for the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary in August.

If he makes Team Kenya, it will be the first time he will be representing the country in the senior category at the World Championships.

“This year, my main goal is to focus on the World Championships in Budapest where I want to do exemplary well,” he told Nation Sport.

The qualifying time for the men’s 3,000m steeplechase at the World Championships is 8:15.00 while the fastest time Serem has posted this season is 8:29.73 which he clocked at the second Athletics Kenya meet held at the Nyayo Stadium where he settled for second place.

However, he revealed that his body is responding well and he is ready to turn the tables as the track and field season ramps up.

“I have been training well and I am hoping to improve on my time. I am in good shape and I am impressed,” he said.

He will be competing at the Kip Keino Classic scheduled for Saturday, May 13 at Kasarani Stadium with his main goal being to improve his time.

“I have prepared well for the Kip Keino Classic and I want to post a good time…that’s my main goal,” he said.
