Edmund Serem, Amos Serem's younger brother is ready to follow in his footsteps as he eyes a gold medal at the World Under-20 Championships in Lima, Peru.

Amos Serem’s younger brother Edmund is keenly following in his elder sibling's footsteps as he looks to make Team Kenya's contingent for this year’s World Under-20 Championships in Lima, Peru.

Last season, Edmund was selected to represent the country at the Africa Under-20 Championships in Zambia where he destroyed a strong field to take the top prize in the 3000m steeplechase race and he is not stopping that.

He will be keen to emulate his brother, who won a gold medal during the 2021 World Under-20 Championships held at the Moi International Sports Center in Kasarani.

Edmund noted that his elder brother is always a motivation to him and he usually shares wise words that the youngster lives by.

“I competed at the Under-20 Championships in Zambia last year and I was able to win a gold medal. Apart from the African Games, I want to go for the World Under-20 Championships in Lima and I’m training for that so I can go and win.

“I want to follow in the footsteps of my brother and run well like he does and I’m happy to be training with him. He usually gives me advice since he has competed on that level,” Edmund said.

During the African Games national trials, Amos Serem led Simon Koech and his younger brother to making the cut to the championship.

It will be the first time the youngster competes with the senior athletes in a continental showpiece and he is ready to rumble. He attested that training with the seniors has helped him have a strong mentality and he will be keen to perform.

“I have been training with the seniors including Wycliffe Kinyamal, Serem, and Nicholas Kimeli and they have taught me a lot,” he said.
