Mary Moraa won Kenya's first women's 800m world title in ten years, defeating defending champion Athing Mu at the World Championships in Budapest.
Athing Mu suffered her first loss at a major championship, losing her world title to Kenya's Mary Moraa, who ran a tactical race to win in a Personal Best (PB) of 1:56.03 at the World Championships in Budapest.
Moraa pulled away from Mu in the last 100m as Great Britain's Keely Hodgkinson came through for the silver medal in 1:56.34, and the defending champion settled for bronze in 1:56.61.
The Kenyan is the first woman from her country to win the 800m world title in ten years since Eunice Sum, a well-deserved victory having had a consistent season.
Notwithstanding, a great effort by Mu, who wasn't fully fit for the final but did everything possible to cross the finish line and get a medal.
