Athletics Kenya Youth Development Committee chairman Barnaba Korir has shared the new measure the federation is taking to curb the doping menace.

Athletics Kenya are burning the midnight oil to ensure that the doping cases in the country are minimized as they prepare for the Olympic Games and the 2025 World Championships.

AK Youth Development Committee chairman Barnaba Korir explained that they will roll out countrywide registration of agents, coaches, and training camps to ensure that only verified personnel will be able to work with the athletes.

Korir noted that the federation will embrace this measure hoping that it will help in curbing the doping cases in the country. He added that the federation will continue working closely with the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya and the Athletics Integrity Unit as they seek to curb the menace.

“We have set up the whole network of what needs to be done and to ensure that proper structures in the federation have been established to ensure we work closely with ADAK and AIU.

"This move will help us know where the athlete is training and the database that has already been installed will monitor what the athletes are doing.

"Eventually, any athlete who goes to compete internationally will be tested several times to ensure that they will be going to run clean and protect the reputation of the country,” Korir told KBC Sport.

Korir also lauded the efforts of athletes during the 2023 season that saw Kenya shine in many global events.

It all started with Faith Kipyegon’s record-breaking spree that saw her shatter the 1500m, 5000m, and one-mile world records. The 29-year-old also won double gold (1500m and 5000m) at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

24-year-old Kelvin Kiptum also shocked the whole world when he shattered Eliud Kipchoge’s world record time at the Chicago Marathon. Kiptum clocked 2:00:35 to obliterate Kipchoge’s world record time of 2:01:09.

Beatrice Chebet was also not left out as she destroyed the women’s 5km road race world record to end her year in style.
