Winning the Lewa 21km was a life-changing moment for her since it marked her first victory since she began her athletics career in 2017.
Lewa Half Marathon champion Beatrice Cheburet has credited her spirited form to the guidance of coach Peter Bii of the Asics Chojo Project in Iten.
Cheburet was peerless in her dominant victory in this year's edition as she cut the tape in 1:16:15 ahead of Lucy Karimi and Mary Munanu who finished second (1:17:10) and third (1:17:30) respectively.

Defending Kenyan champions gear up to face tough competition in pursuit of continental glory.
Cheburet disclosed that her coach motivated her into taking up the sport despite it not being her first love initially. Since she started off her career in 2017, the 24-year-old has been working around the clock in search of a win, and all the effort paid off recently when she won the Lewa 21km.
“My coach motivated me to take up athletics and even though I wasn’t interested at first, I decided to give it a try. He has helped me a lot in matters of training and I have improved a lot.
"Since I started in 2017, I have never won any marathon, and most of the time I used to finish second, third, and fourth. The Lewa Half Marathon was my first…it was a very happy moment for me,” she said.
Cheburet recalled that she did not expect to win the race since she enrolled for the marathon by chance after getting wind of it from a friend.
