Beatrice Chepkoech has addressed her track rivalry with Kenyan-born Bahraini Winfred Yavi.

Reigning World 3000m steeplechase record holder Beatrice Chepkoech has quashed the rumors flying around about her going for revenge against Kenyan-born Bahraini Winfred Yavi.

Yavi made headlines last season, beating Chepkoech at both the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, and the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting final.

Chepkoech has now expressed interest in bagging a medal at the Olympic Games in Paris, France but has noted that Yavi is not in her focus.

“I can’t train with the thought of going after someone (Yavi) but I’m training to be the best without aiming for a specific runner,” the World 3000m SC silver medallist said.

The 2019 World Champion suffered a niggly hamstring injury and made a comeback into competitive athletics last season. However, she has insisted that she is not fully recovered but she will try her best.

Her main focus this season is to bag a medal at the event since she has never won an Olympic medal in her athletics career.

“I’m not fully back but I will try to come back strong this season. I’m really working hard to go to the Olympics and win a medal since I don’t have any from the event,” Chepkoech added.

She was in action at the ORLEN Copernicus Cup in Torun, Poland, on Tuesday night competing in the 1500m and managed to finish fifth.

In the race, Freweyni Hailu, Diribe Welteji, and Hirut Meshesha achieved times that place them third, fourth, and fifth respectively on the world all-time list.

Hailu and Diribe Welteji had a game of cat and mouse, with Welteji seemingly taking charge with three laps left.

Hailu regained the lead with 400m remaining and Welteji then led at the bell, but Hailu made the decisive burst with 100m to go.

She ran strongly to the finish line to win in 3:55.28 as Welteji followed her in 3:55.47 while Meshesha was third in 3:56.47. The top 10 athletes all set indoor personal bests.
