Kenya’s Beatrice Cheserek and Uganda’s Ali Chebures are the winners of the 2023 Tallinn Half Marathon.

In the women’s race, Cheserek proved her resilience and hard work as she led from gun to tape in the hotly-contested race. She passed the 10km mark in 32:19, and her closest challenger, Janet Ruguru held onto her passing the mark at approximately the same time.

Cheserek looked comfortable passing the 15km mark in 48:20 and Ruguru had not left her side at that point. Ruguru also looked comfortable for the top prize but she was outsmarted by her compatriot who parted from her with the finish line in sight.

She clocked 1:08:22 to cross the finish line first as Ruguru was forced to finish second in 1:08:30. Another Kenyan, Lydia Korir completed the podium after clocking a Personal Best time of 1:08:49 to cross the line.

In the men’s race, Chebures was primed for top contention as he started off by passing the 10km mark in 29:23 as more than five men held onto him.

Passing through the 15km mark, the Ugandan’s closest challenger was Kenya’s Elvis Tabarach who was looking a bit tired. The Kenyan pushed hard to keep Chebures on his toes but the Ugandan proved hard to beat.

With 1km to go, Chebures unleashed a finishing kick that saw him sprint to the finish line and cut the tape in a time of 1:01:35. Tabarach finished second in a time of 1:01:45 as another Kenyan, Erick Ndiema sealed the podium in 1:01:50.
