Tokyo Marathon champion Benson Kipruto has put Eliud Kipchoge on the spot as he unveils his target at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
After beating former world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge at the Tokyo Marathon, Benson Kipruto is now confident of impressing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
This year’s Tokyo Marathon was the second time Kipruto was beating Kipchoge since he also floored the five-time Berlin Marathon champion at the 2023 Boston Marathon. At the event, Kipchoge finished sixth while Kipruto managed third place.
Kipruto acknowledges the fact that Kipchoge will be chasing history at the event, wanting to become the first man to win three Olympic titles in the marathon but he also wants to win his first Olympic marathon title.

Speaking after he was named in the men’s marathon squad alongside Kipchoge, London Marathon champion Alexander Mutiso, and Timothy Kiplagat, Kipruto promised to go back to the drawing board and sharpen his talons ahead of the global bonanza.
“I’m so happy to be named as part of the team for the marathon and I’m looking forward to doing well in Paris. Of course, we shall work as a team and I’m looking forward to preparing well," Kipruto said.
“I think three months is enough for me and that’s why I chose to run in Tokyo and right now I’m in my off-season and training for Paris. Despite the rain, there is no problem.
“It will be good to work as a team since we have been running with Eliud and I will be following his footsteps and I know he is looking for the third title and I’ll be looking for my first…that’s what we are going to do there."
Last season, Kipruto finished third at the Boston Marathon earlier in the year and proceeded to finish second behind record-breaker Kiptum at the Chicago Marathon, where he was the defending champion.
This season, he started off with great exploits at the Tokyo Marathon, where he clocked an impressive time of 2:02:16 to cross the finish line in first position.
