Boaz Kipkemei & Sharon Cherop save Kenya the blushes as Germans dominate Hannover Marathon

Kenyan athletes shine amidst fierce competition at Hannover Marathon with Germans dominating but Kenya’s resilience celebrated.

Kenya’s Boaz Kipkemei faced a tough challenge at the 32nd edition of the Hannover Marathon as he was beaten to second place by the race defending champion Amanal Petros. 

Kipkemei crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 2:07:06 a minute after Petros obliterated his course record with a time of 2:06:05.

Victor Kiplimo, another Kenyan contender, secured a respectable position on the podium, finishing third with a commendable time of 2:09:58.

Despite the strong showing by the Kenyan athletes, it was evident that the German nationals were determined to assert their dominance on home turf.

In the women's division, Germany’s Domenika Mayer emerged victorious after an intense battle with former Boston Marathon winner Sharon Cherop.

 Mayer showcased her strength and endurance, crossing the finish line in a remarkable time of 2:23:50, setting a new course record in the process.

Cherop displayed formidable resilience finishing a close second with a time of 2:24:41.

Lilian Jebitok clinched the third spot on the podium, completing the marathon in 2:27:13. 

Mayer's stellar performance not only secured her victory but also shattered the previous course record set by Croatia’s Matea Parlov Kostro.
