Fresh off his Olympic gold medal win in the 200m at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he set a personal best and African record of 19.46 seconds, Tebogo had publicly set his sights on Bolt's world record.
The young sprinter expressed his ambition to surpass Bolt's time, while also acknowledging the need to avoid putting undue pressure on himself as reported by Pulse Sports Nigeria.

But at the Silesia Diamond League event, Tebogo faced an early setback with a poor start. However, he showcased his remarkable talent and determination by recovering brilliantly and running down the field to claim victory in the men's 200m.

His winning time of 19.83 seconds (+0.6 wind) was enough to shatter the meet record, although it fell short of Bolt's world record of 19.19 seconds set in 2009.

The race saw strong competition, with Alex Ogando setting a new National Record of 19.86 seconds to finish second. Kenny Bednarek rounded out the top three with a time of 20.00 seconds.
While Tebogo didn't achieve his ultimate goal of breaking Bolt's record in this attempt, his performance demonstrates that he remains a formidable force in sprinting.
