The Olympic 100m silver medalist has pulled out of the Rome Diamond League classic just days after he also withdrew from the Silesia clash.

Jamaica's fast-rising sprint star Kishane Thompson has opted out of the highly anticipated 100m race at this weekend's Rome Diamond League meeting, marking his second withdrawal in as many weeks.

Just days after pulling out of the Silesia edition in Poland, Thompson's absence has raised concerns about his fitness ahead of the event.

Thompson was expected to compete in a star-studded field featuring Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala, 2020 Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs, and American sprinting powerhouse Fred Kerley.

However, his decision to withdraw suggests ongoing concerns over his health, specifically a troublesome hamstring that has plagued him for weeks.

Earlier this week, Pulse Sports reported that Thompson withdrew from the Silesia meeting due to a hamstring issue sustained during warm-ups. The same injury appears to be the reason behind his latest withdrawal, as his team continues to manage the situation carefully.

This problematic hamstring nearly cost Thompson his spot in the 100m final at the Paris Olympics, where he had emerged as a strong contender. His coach, Stephen Francis, recently shed light on the extent of the challenge they faced in preparing Thompson for the Olympic final.

“I do not think he was used to that situation, but I believe his problem really occurred after the semis where he got a hamstring problem,” Francis explained, highlighting the significant hurdle that the injury posed.

The injury required extensive management to ensure Thompson could compete in the final, with Francis and his team working tirelessly to keep their athlete in contention.

“From our perspective, we had to spend our entire time trying to get him to run or participate based on how he said he was feeling. It was uncertain,” Francis admitted.

The uncertainty around Thompson’s condition made it a race against time to get him ready, with his team employing various techniques to boost his physical readiness and mental confidence.

"Shawnterry (Manboard) had to use all kinds of techniques and so on, not only to get him to be okay but to believe he was okay," Francis added, underscoring the lengths they went to ensure Thompson could compete at the highest level.
