Brian Komen has revealed the reason behind his mysterious kick and his plans going into the semifinal of the men's 1500m at the Paris Olympics.

Africa 1500m champion Brian Komen has spoken about his magical last kick and his tactic heading into the men’s 1500m semifinal race at the Paris Olympic Games.

Komen noted that running from the front in the first round secured him a slot in the semifinal after his second-place finish behind Josh Kerr. He explained that atmosphere in the stadium was something to marvel at, being his first Olympics Games.

The national champion added that he has put in a lot of work to be on the Olympic stage and he will continue investing in his skills to ensure he leaves with a medal. Going up against Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Kerr and other strong 1500m runners, Komen believes he has the ability to dethrone them.

“The atmosphere was good and the race was also nice and my focus here was to secure a position and qualify for the semifinal. Now I have qualified for the semis and we go back and relax a bit as we wait for the race,” Komen said.

“I wanted to secure a position where I could run comfortably without disturbance from my colleagues and I managed. I have practiced a lot for the last kick because I know everyone is good at overlapping so what will work for me is having that kick in the last 200m or 300m. I’m capable of winning a medal going up against Jakob Ingebrigtsen and the likes.”

Komen added that there is nothing he can work on now and he has to believe in God. He added that the team of Timothy Cheruiyot and Reynold is also strong and they will all make it to the final.

The Kenyan talent feels once they make it to the final, team work will be key to winning medals.

“There is nothing I can work on now and now I can only trust in God. The Kenyans are good and they will manage the semifinal. We want to qualify for the final and then God will lead,” Komen said.

“When we qualify, we shall plan with the coaches and my colleagues and see how it goes. I know I am capable of doing something great.”
