ATHLETICS Brian Kwemoi sets new course record after winning Beijing Half Marathon

Kwemoi bettered Jianhua’s course record of 1:04:53 which he had set to win the 2021 edition of the race.

Brian Kirui Kwemoi has today, April 16 set a new course record by winning the Beijing Half Marathon in 59:37.

Kwemoi obliterated a strong field to cut the tape ahead of Chinese duo of Yang Kegu and Peng Jianhua who placed second and third respectively.

Kwemoi bettered Jianhua’s course record of 1:04:53 which he had set to win the 2021 edition of the race.

In the women’s results, China's Liu Min finished first in 1:11:07. Min expressed her excitement towards bagging the win and achieving a new personal best time.

In a post-race interview, she said: “The weather in Beijing today makes me feel comfortable. I am really delighted to renew my personal best here. My coach's support helps a lot.

About 20,000 runners from 27 countries and regions including China, France and Brazil participated in the race this year, starting in the Tian'anmen Square and ending in the Olympic Park.

The Beijing Half Marathon, also known as Beijing International Running Festival, can be traced back to 1956.
