World record holder Eliud Kipchoge returns to Berlin Marathon, eyeing a chance to rewrite history on the iconic course.

World Marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge is gearing up for a triumphant comeback at the 49th edition of the Berlin Marathon, set to take place this Sunday in the German capital.

With his illustrious career marked by incredible achievements, including twice breaking the world record on the Berlin course, Kipchoge's return promises an electrifying showdown for fans worldwide.

Last year, Kipchoge astounded the running community by setting a remarkable world record time of 2:01.09, cementing his status as the greatest marathoner in history.

His unparalleled accomplishments on the Berlin course have elevated him to legendary status, and he is eager to leave an indelible mark once again.

In the lead-up to the race, Kipchoge has left no stone unturned in his quest to reclaim Berlin's glory.

"I have been putting in the work together with the team, doing all my training, and trusting the process. I am ready to go back to my special place, back to Berlin to take on the challenge again,” said Kipchoge.

Kipchoge will face formidable competition, including Amos Kipruto, the 2019 World marathon bronze medalist, who boasts a lifetime best of 2:03.13, achieved at the 2022 Tokyo Marathon where he clinched silver.

Also, Jonathan Maiyo, the 2012 Africa Games 5000m silver medalist, will be a contender, holding the third-fastest time of 2:04.56.

The start line boasts seven athletes who have broken the impressive 2:06 barrier, including five Kenyans: Eliud Kiptanui (2:05.21), Ronald Korir (2:05.37), Philemon Kiplimo (2:05.44), Enock Onchari (2:05.47), and Mark Korir (2:05.49).

Adding to the competition are three talented Ethiopians: Tadu Abate (2:05.38), Andualem Shiferaw (2:05.52), and Haftu Teklu (2:05.53).

Ghirmay Ghebreslassie, the 2015 World marathon champion hailing from Eritrea, is another contender to watch.

With a lifetime best of 2:05.34 achieved last year at the Zurich Marathon de Sevilla, where he secured the bronze medal, Ghebreslassie brings his own remarkable credentials to the race.

As the Berlin Marathon unfolds this Sunday, fans around the world will be eagerly watching as Eliud Kipchoge and this impressive lineup of athletes vie for victory on the iconic Berlin course.

With records at stake and Olympic dreams in the balance, the stage is set for a thrilling and historic race.
