Uganda's long-distance star Joshua Cheptegei has entered training camp in Kapchorwa, Eastern Uganda, for the Valencia Marathon slated for December 3, 2023.
Cheptegei's training in his marathon transition is being taken care of by his coach, Addy Ruiter, a Dutch coach with the NN Running Team.
Ruiter has overseen success with Cheptegei's teammates Victor Kiplangat and Stephen Kissa making superb performances in the 42 Km distance.
Speaking to URN, Cheptegei noted that he would love to retire after taking on world-renowned marathon majors.
“I need to end my career after running some marathon majors like the London Marathon, Boston, and Berlin, among others,” Cheptegei told URN.
Cheptegei returns to training after successfully defending his 10,000m world title for the third consecutive time at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
He only returned to the track in July this year, meticulously preparing for Budapest, where he suffered another setback, dropping out of 5,000m heats due to injury.
