Dennis Mitchell has explained what makes the trio of Sha'Carri Richardson, Melissa Jefferson and Twanisha Terry unique after they all qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Star Athletics Club head coach Dennis Mitchell has explained the recipe behind the success of his team that includes world 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson, Twanisha Terry and Melissa Jefferson.

The trio will fly America’s flag high in the women’s 100m at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after oozing class in the women’s final at the USATF Olympic trials happening at the Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Richardson won the race in a world leading time of 10.71 as Jefferson came in second, clocking 10.80 to cross the finish line and Twanisha Terry third in 10.89. Mitchell explained that the trio has worked hard for that and they certainly deserve it.

Speaking to Citius Mag, he disclosed that after the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, there were not many changes that he made with the athletes. Mitchell noted that he always encourages the ladies to be true to themselves since it’s one of the important qualities to possess.

“Well, the one thing that we decided that we were going to do after World Championships is not trying to be anything and, in our group, we fight to be ourselves and we don’t go out to try and become something that we are not and I think that we fight well because we go out there and express who we are as individuals and as a team,” he said.

Following the announcement that the trio will be in action at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Mitchell was short of words and could not describe how it felt to have three of his athletes going to Paris.

He added that coaching Jefferson has been life changing since the 23-year-old is very hard working and is easy to adapt to the tough training sessions since changing coaches. He added that she is always eager to learn, something that has enabled her to grow and is slowly rising to the top.

“I was so excited and I couldn’t do anything but scream…you know this is something that these girls have worked hard for and to be able to accomplish and to be able to accomplish something of this magnitude on this stage and with the incredible girls that they had to run against, I just can’t describe it.

“Melissa is very hardworking and she is a smart girl and we went through a lot of changes this year and I introduced to her some new training workouts that were a little bit harder. She is always eager to learn and she needed all those things to get to this level,” he said.
