Following reactions of Tobi Amusan parting ways with her long-term coach and joining Glen Mills, the renowned Jamaican trainer has responded to speculations saying he doesn't train female athletes to greatness.
Renowned Jamaican Coach Glen Mills has answered critics who believe he doesn't train female athletes to greatness, following the official confirmation women's 100mH World Record holder Tobi Amusan is now under his tutelage.
The Nigerian hurdling queen parted ways with her long-term WR guiding coach Lacena Golding-Clarke to join coach Mills, who trained Usain Bolt to unprecedented success—including world records in the 100m and 200m, eight Olympic gold medals, and 11 World Championship titles between 2008 and 2016.
He was also the driving success of Yohan Blake - the second-fastest man in history in the 100m and 200m, making him one of the most respected and greatest coaches in athletics history.
Interestingly, following the news that Amusan was now under his care, there have been mixed reactions from track fans, who believe he doesn't have major success stories with female athletes, and may end up being the same for the Nigerian.
Coach Mills has now openly debunked such criticisms, stating Amusan has been making progress under his guidance since she joined in September and he has had previous success stories with female sprinters in the past.
"It has been a joy working with her because she is a true professional,” said Mills in an exclusive interview with sportsmax.tv.
“She brings to the table an approach that is really refreshing. People believe that I don’t coach women, but I have had experience with quite a few. I had (Olympic gold medalist) Aleen [Bailey] for a year back in the day, and also people like [Olympian] Cathy Rattray and Olympic medalist Kerron Stewart,” he added.
The legendary coach also praised Amusan's attitude to training, citing why he sees she's the world record holder.
