Great Britain's Daryll Neita has set the record straight on what she wants to achieve after beating World 200m bronze medallist Sha'Carri Richardson at the Diamond League Meeting in Suzhou, China.

Great Britain’s sprinting ace Daryll Neita is a woman on a mission after obliterating a strong field that included Sha’Carri Richardson at the Diamond League Meeting in Suzhou, China on Saturday, April 27.

The two-time Olympic bronze medallist cut the tape in a time of 22.62 seconds in her season-opening outdoor individual race. Anavia Battle finished second in 22.99 as Richardson completed the podium. Neita believes the win is setting her up for a great show as she eyes the Olympic Games in Paris, France later this year.

“I want the individual medals…I mean, why not? Wherever I come, I come to win and so it doesn’t matter who lines up against me…the ladies at the moment are just running very fast times and I’m very happy to be part of women’s sprinting at the moment but I’m aiming for the top,” she said in a post-race interview.

She did not expect to win the 200m race at the Diamond League owing to the strong quality of the field but noted that her training has paid off well. She also noted that claiming the win in such a strong field has given her more confidence building up to the Olympic Games.

“My coach has always told me to trust the process and he has been killing me in the workout and I really had no idea of what I would achieve but I really wanted the win.

“Winning in a decent time and against such a strong field, I really feel confident going forward. I’m balancing the 100m and 200m and I feel like it’s my new love.

“There are a lot of races coming up…there is Doha, and Atlanta City Games and my plan is just to stay healthy, stay in one piece and prepare for the summer,” she added.
