She finished second at the ongoing second Athletics Kenya meet.
Diana Cherotich is banking on teamwork to help her achieve her dream of a podium finish at the Under-18 and Under-20 East African Athletics Regional Championships to be staged at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania from 10-11 March.
On Friday 24 February, she ran a tactical race to place second in 15:51.29 behind compatriot Marion Jepng'etich who won the race in 15:51.23. Maureen Chepkoech settled for third place in 15:52.86.
Cherotich recounted how teamwork helped her and Jepng'etich to secure big wins and is happy that they will both secure a ticket to Tanzania after their Bathurst painful miss.
The duo had qualified for the World Cross-country Championships but could not travel due to visa hitches. This will be the first time they make Team Kenya.
At the national trials for the World Cross-country championships, Cherotich settled for sixth place behind Jepng'etich.
"We really wanted to take the first two positions and I'm happy we've achieved that. We had talked about it and planned well," Cherotich said, adding that Jepng'etich is a good friend of her's.
Going to Tanzania, Cherotich hopes they will secure the first two places.
She also said they are plotting big as they eye a slot to the Under-18 and Under-20 African championships slated for Lusaka, Zambia from April 29 to May 3.
"From there, we shall know what next," she said.
