The cancellation of the Grenada Invitational means Elaine Thompson-Herah's moment at redemption will be delayed.

Double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah will have to wait anxiously for her moment of redemption after Prefontaine Classic disaster as her next meet at the Grenada Invitational has been cancelled.

The Jamaican speed queen had a below-par performance in her Olympic season's debut at the Eugene Diamond League, where she finished last in 11.30s.

World champion Sha'Carri Richardson was the race winner in an impressive 10.83s, ahead of world indoor champion Julien Alfred in 10.93s and Great Britain's record holder Dina Asher-Smith in 10.98s.

With a chance at redemption to blaze back as a top challenger in the women's 100m division, Thompson-Herah was scheduled to be one of the headliners for the Grenada Invitational on June 6th but won't be racing again as the meet has now been canceled due to economic situation as announced by the organizers.

"The prevailing local and regional economic environment has made it extremely difficult for us to get the level of sponsorship and general support needed to pull off a Meet of this magnitude.

"With time running out, the Board of Directors of the Grenada Invitational took the painful decision at a meeting late Monday, May 27 to cancel the 2024 Grenada Invitational, as well as round up, for good, the franchise and brand that is Grenada  Invitational.

"We are extremely pleased that we were able to bring to Grenada quality, world-class athletic competition. We would like to commend and extend a hearty thank you to all who contributed, in one way or the other, to the 2017, 2018, and 2019 editions of the  Grenada Invitational."

Thompson-Herah will now shift her focus on getting better in training as fans look forward to her next competition.
