The Jamaian double Olympic champion has revealed her biggest target for the season ahead of the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Jamaican sprint sensation Elaine Thompson-Herah has revealed her ultimate target for the season under her new coach as she targets an unprecedented third Olympic gold medal in the 100m event this August.

Five months ago, Thompson-Herah made the decision to transition to working with coach Reynaldo Walcott, a move that aligns her with the esteemed mentor who has also guided three-time Olympic gold medalist and 10-time world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce since 2020.

This partnership marks a significant shift for Thompson-Herah, who had previously trained under Stephen Francis before briefly being coached by her husband, Derron, and then Shanikie Osbourne.

Reports suggest that the split with Osbourne stemmed from pay-related issues, prompting Thompson-Herah to seek a new coaching environment as she aims to reignite her athletic prowess.

Despite facing challenges in her preparation, Thompson-Herah is determined to overcome obstacles and return to peak performance.

Reflecting on her approach to the upcoming season, Thompson-Herah emphasized the importance of prioritizing her physical well-being above all else. "I know the key focus is always to stay healthy," she stated to Citius Mag. "Once I have that, the times will come after."

Acknowledging the significance of adapting to a new coaching system and schedule, Thompson-Herah expressed confidence in her current trajectory.

"My schedule has changed. Different system. Different coach. I’m trying to be accustomed to that," she shared. "I think I am in a good place right now, and I am really happy about that."

While the pursuit of excellence brings its own pressures, Thompson-Herah remains resolute in her commitment to staying focused and injury-free as she navigates the path towards the Paris Olympics.

"The only pressure that comes is when I’m having an injury," she explained. "But for now, I’m just staying focused and healthy."

With the Tokyo Olympics behind her, Thompson-Herah's attention is squarely focused on the road ahead, with Paris presenting an opportunity for her to etch her name in the annals of sporting history.

As she continues her journey towards Olympic glory, Thompson-Herah remains steadfast in her determination to conquer new heights and cement her legacy as one of track and field's all-time greats.
