The former Chicago marathon champion who has quashed rumours of retirement, is raring to go next season.

Two-time Olympics champion Eliud Kipchoge has faced criticism and controversy at times in his trophy-filled career, but he has managed to deal with it head-on despite his incredible achievements.

In February, the 39-year-old faced false accusations linking him to the death of fellow marathon runner Kelvin Kiptum. This unfounded speculation led to threats against his family and significant emotional distress as he revealed to NTV.

Kipchoge's sub-2-hour marathon in 2019 was met with some skepticism, with critics pointing out that the event was highlighly controlled, with pacemakers and also, they said the course was flat. They also maintained that the technological aids made it less of a pure athletic achievement.

Aside from this, his barrage of criticism also includes the tearing down of statues honoring him and other athletes in Eldoret town by the residents who found the designs embarrassing and disrespectful.

When quizzed on how he handles criticism, the former Chicago marathon champion said: "I normally go back, sit down and handle slowly by slowly. When you cook ugali, when you remove ugali, then there's one which normally remains and can't come out, and you need to pour water. After pouring the water, it will come out slowly. it is what is in my mind. I get it out slowly by slowly of course it will not be a one-night thing".

Kipchoge, in driving his point further home, added: "I realise also if you have clean and dirty water, all of them can make crops grow. So, if they say it in a negative way or a positive way, all will actually be on my side and the way I will handle it will actually determine the outcome."
