Speaking during the unveiling of the team, Kipchoge extended a hand of gratitude to AK for granting the athletes another opportunity to don the Kenyan jersey one more time on the global stage.
“We are excited and happy to represent the country and wear the flag again. We will actually practice the virtue of patriotism.
“We have about four months and the preparation is going on well and this is a good time to continue training and focus. This is just but the start since the team has been named today.
“We can’t preempt what will happen…we also believe in teamwork because it’s the key to success and trusting each other too. We shall train separately but keep tabs on each other,” the four-time London Marathon champion said.
He added that hard work and determination are two key things that have worked for him in the years he has been running. He explained that having a goal is what will enable the team to walk out with a medal.
The five-time Berlin Marathon champion did not downplay the fact that competing at the Olympics in itself is always a great thing.
