Emmaculate Anyango is out to change the narrative that Luos cannot do well in long-distance running as she eyes a podium finish at the World Cross Country Championships.
Sirikwa Classic Cross Country champion Emmaculate Anyango has opened up about beating negative stereotypes to rise to the top of the world in athletics.
Anyango rose to the limelight late last year, after finishing second at the Urban Trail de Lille in an impressive time of 30.01. She then impressed at this year’s 10K Valencia Ibercaja, running the second fastest time over the 10km and finishing second.
It was in that race that Agnes Jebet broke the 10km world record. Anyango was not finished when she proceeded to claim the Sirikwa Classic Cross Country top prize and secure a second-place finish during the World Cross Country national trials.

“I believe talent is universal, it’s not about where you come from. What matters is how you exploit your chances. Besides my mum, who used to run in school, I don’t really come from a family of runners.
“When you have a goal, anything is possible. All that matter are discipline and putting in the work in training,” she said.
