Esther Mbagari has revealed her plans to ensure she elevates the level of female sprinters in Kenya, just like Ferdinand Omanyala boosted the male sprinters.

Kenyan sprinter Esther Mbagari seeks to make a name for herself and place Kenya on the continental map as she heads to the African Games in Accra, Ghana.

Mbagari has so far enjoyed a stellar 2024 season and making the cut to the continental showpiece is a sign that she is on the right track.

The 23-year-old explained that she believes Kenyan women can run under 11 seconds and she will be the first to prove that the feat is a possibility.

“I feel so great and happy…I expect to run a Personal Best time and improve my time and show that Kenyan women can also run sub-11.

“In the 200m, Kenyans have run under 23 seconds, I believe we can also be able to run well and post times under 11 seconds,” she said.

Ahead of descending on the start line, Mbagari explained that she ought to work on her starts since they are wanting. She promised to work closely with her coach to win a medal and even qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris, France.

“I’ll ask my coach some few things that I can improve and hopefully get a medal…that would be a great step ahead of the Olympic Games,” Mbagari said.

Meanwhile, Mbagari has been a notable appearance at the Athletics Kenya (AK) weekend meets. She opened her 2024 season at the second AK weekend meet held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex where she finished second in the 100m and won the 200m.

She then extended her winning streak to the third AK meet at the Nyayo National Stadium where she won a double in the 100m and 200m.

During the African Games national trials at the Nyayo National Stadium, Mbagari stunned her opponents to win the 100m, cutting the tape in 11.63 in the final of the race.
