Adults, children, and over 300 amateur runners are expected to participate in the Surulere marathon.
The Surulere Local Government Area (LGA) of Lagos State is teaming up with UB40 Sports Marketing and Starlite Sports Marketing to host a marathon race tagged the "LERE FUNATHON."
The initiative combines a 10km marathon and a funfair slated to take place on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
The marathon is designed to be inclusive with various entry categories available for children and adults and over 300 amateur runners expected to participate.

Surulere Chairman enthusiastic about the Marathon
Surulere Local Government Chairman, Sulaimon Yusuf, has expressed his strong support for the marathon, adding that it is part of the blueprint of sports development in the council.
Yusuf, said, “This is an administration that partners with notable ideas that will benefit the people of Surulere. We have our blueprint and that doesn’t mean we won’t embrace other ideas if we believe they will bring development and progress within Surulere."
“This is the first edition and it will not be the last, just as we have other sporting activities, which we are going to tag the Surulere Sports Festival,” he added.

Meanwhile, the CEO of UB40 Sports Marketing, Olusola Lawson, stressed the importance of adhering to World Athletics' established best practices for the event.

Additionally, he emphasised their ongoing collaboration with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria to ensure a smoothly run of the marathon.
“It’s a fun run and there will be attractive prizes. We will do everything to make sure that whatever our successes are this year, we will surpass them in subsequent editions. It’s a 10km event, a format widely embraced worldwide. We deliberately chose this distance to align with global marathon standards,” Lawson said.
