Ednah Awuor, the mother of the late marathoner Kelvin Kiptum’s daughter, has clapped back at online critics over her actions.

Edna Awuor, the woman who claimed to have a child with the late world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum, met fierce criticism online after she visited Kiptum’s family home with her daughter, Adrel Cherop Kiptum.

The visit, intended to allow Adrel to connect with her late father's family, sparked a wave of accusations on social media.

Critics labeled Awuor as “desperate” and questioned her motives for reaching out to Kiptum's relatives, especially his wife, Asenath.

Awuor did not hold back in her response to the online trolls.

When one user asked why she had visited Kiptum's home, she fired back, emphasizing that her actions were simply to ensure her daughter maintained ties with her paternal family.

"Failure ni wewe [You are the failure], because you’re busy following up to know what I went to do. For your information, I’m going back there tomorrow, and I’ll take more pictures. Come with me so you can find out for yourself what I’m doing there. Taking my child to her grandparents—does that make me desperate? If so, I’d advise you to also be desperate. Alaa!" she retorted.

Awuor continued to criticize the users for meddling in her personal life, questioning why her efforts to involve her daughter with Kiptum's family caused such a stir.

"The person we’re talking about isn’t even here anymore. Why does it bother you that the child is with her family? Why does it irritate you? I’ll take her there again, and you can keep calling me desperate—there’s nothing you can do about it. Yes am desperate, so what?" she added defiantly.

Her blunt response also included a jab at the critics, suggesting that their anger stemmed from personal dissatisfaction or missed opportunities with the late marathoner.

“If you wanted to be Kiptum’s side chicks, you should have been, so you wouldn’t feel so desperate now,” Awuor said, turning the tables on the online attackers.

Awuor's journey with Kiptum, who tragically passed away earlier this year, has been one filled with public scrutiny and legal battles.

She first gained attention after Kiptum’s death when she sought to have their daughter recognized as his child.

In a high-profile legal move, Awuor filed a court petition to stop Kiptum's burial, ensuring that Adrel was acknowledged as part of the family.

During the proceedings, Awuor revealed that she was unaware of Kiptum's other relationships and had only discovered them through social media.

Despite the shock, her primary focus remained her daughter, whom she claimed bore a striking resemblance to Kiptum.

In the courtroom, Awuor testified that she had a cordial relationship with Kiptum's wife, Rotich, and they would often communicate about his whereabouts whenever either of them needed to reach him.

However, Justice Robert Wananda, presiding over the case at the High Court in Eldoret, ruled against Awuor’s request to halt the burial, allowing Kiptum’s funeral to proceed as planned.

Despite the public drama surrounding her and her daughter’s association with the late marathoner, Awuor has remained steadfast in her conviction that she is simply looking out for her child's well-being.

She continues to face harsh judgment from some but her determination to ensure her daughter is recognized as part of Kiptum's legacy remains unwavering.
