Faith Kipyegon has commented on why she thinks she was nicknamed 'smiling destroyer' by her fans.
When winning races on the track, three-time Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon is usually seen smiling.
Due to her smiling nature, she was given the nickname ‘smiling destroyer’ and for the first time, she disclosed why she loves maintaining an easy face when competing. Kipyegon explained that smiling eases the tension and she is always able to compete without much pressure.
At the Olympic Games, however, the 5000m was not a walk in the pack as the race was very dramatic. This did not showcase the usual smiling nature of Kipyegon following her disqualification for obstructing Gudaf Tsegay.

Australian Olympic silver medalist Jessica Hull on why pushing Faith Kipyegon to set new 1500m world record was the turning point in her career
Hull, who delivered silver in the 1500 meters at the Paris Olympic games, has had an unforgettabloe season that saw her give Faith Kipyegon a run for her money in the event.
However, she managed to wake up the next day and head to the 1500m heats, thanks to her strong mindset. She bounced back stronger and claimed the win in the 1500m, winning her third Olympic title over the distance.

“I don’t know how it came about…I think I’m always a smiling girl and I think smiling chases the tension away and at the same time, when I smile, I feel comfortable…I don’t know,” Kipyegon told Runner Space.
“I was mentally strong and that’s what gave me the morale to wake up and go for the 1500m heats the following day. It was a dramatic race and it took a lot of energy on my mind and my physical abilities. I was not strong anymore but I thank God and all those people who were there with me,” she added.
Kipyegon will end her season with Athlos, Alex Ohanian’s women-only event scheduled for September 26. She explained that she has been working hard this season, pointing out that it is her main motivation to keep going.
After the race in New York City, Kipyegon will go back home to spend time with her family before resuming training ahead of next season.
“First, I want to finish my season in New York and go back to my family, especially my daughter. It has been a good season…I have won my fifth Diamond League trophy and it’s just amazing. I think it's hard work... I've been working hard and being disciplined in what I do knowing that I can achieve all these beautiful things ahead of me,” she said.
