Faith Kipyegon has disclosed why the 1500m world record will forever remain special to her.

Double world record holder Faith Kipyegon has disclosed why the 1500m world record will forever remain close to her heart.

On a hot night at the Diamond League Meeting in Florence, Italy, Kipyegon put up a good fight and completely shattered Genzebe Dibaba’s world record time in the 1500m race. She clocked 3:49.11 to lower Dibaba’s time which was 3:50.07.

Speaking to Nation Sport, Kipyegon explained that the 1500m world record stands out for her since she had achieved everything in the 1500m and the world record was the only thing missing. The double world champion added that having the world record had summed up everything for her.

At the moment, Kipyegon is a two-time Olympic champion and three-time World champion in the 1500m. She is also a multiple Diamond League final trophy winner over the distance.

“The world record I enjoyed the most was the 1500m…I have achieved a lot over the distance. I have achieved medals at the World Championships and Olympic Games.

The first gold medal I got from the World Championships and Olympics was in the 1500m. Winning and becoming the Olympic and World champion without a world record does not make you strong in that discipline.

I wanted to get the world record in the 1500m because it would be a long-term thing and it would be a legacy,” Kipyegon explained.

She added that she never changed any of her training techniques ahead of breaking the world records.

“To be honest, I never changed anything…how I was preparing for the world record in the 1500m, 5000m, and the mile.

It was not difficult to change from the 1500m and 5000m…look at Sifan Hassan, she has also mastered the craft. It’s all in your mind…you have to adapt to training and believe in yourself,” Kipyegon added.
