Fans have reacted to Sha'Carri Richardson's fourth-place finish in the 200m at the US Olympic trials that saw her narrowly miss out on the team.
Reigning world 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson missed out on making the 200m team to the Paris Olympics at the US Olympic trials and fans have shared their thoughts concerning her performance.
In the final, the American sprint queen finished fourth, crossing the finish line in 22.16. Gabby Thomas won the race, clocking 21.81 as Brittany Brown clocked a personal best time of 21.90 to finish second. McKenzie Long completed the podium in a time of 21.91.
Richardson was off to a great start in the heats, winning in 21.99 before equaling her personal best time of 21.92 to win the semifinal. However, with her fourth-place finish in the final, she will not represent team USA in the 200m.

Fans have shared their opinions about her performance, with some noting that she intentionally slowed down to let others qualify and others noted that there was a problem with her execution in the race.

“Felt like Richardson ran slow to let someone else go to the Olympics because she was not at full speed,” a fan wrote.
“Sha’Carri ran too wide on the curb. That cost her big time. I already had Gabby and McKenzie on the squad with Brown as the dark horse,” Dr. Panco Hinton wrote.
Another added: “Oh boy! People actually said Sha’Carri wouldn't qualify.”
“Hold up!! I thought people were on here pumping their chest saying Richardson would run an easy 21.6,” another fan added.
Dream Sinatra added: “100m/200m double would’ve been extremely difficult anyway for Sha’Carri. But love that she proved so many people wrong and leads the 100m team to Paris.”
Richardson already qualified for the women’s 100m, where she set a world leading time of 10.71 to win the race ahead of Melissa Jefferson and Twanisha Terry who clocked 10.80 and 10.89 respectively.
