The win at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix saw Imeta set a Personal Best time of 10.10.

A sub 10 second time is just around the corner and fast rising Kenya Army athlete Samwel Imeta knows it. After another impressive go at the Golden Grand Prix in Gaborone, Botswana, the 23 year-old is promising more thrilling shows with faster timings.

Imeta, who was competing in the first heat of the 100m final, crossed the finish line first ahead of South Africa’s Benjamin Richardson and Namibia’s Hainuca Gilbert who settled for second and third places in respective times of 10.15 and 10.17.

The win saw Imeta set a Personal Best time of 10.10 and he has promised more fast times going forward.

“I am happy to have set a Personal Best here. I want to run more good races and set new PBs as I progress,” an elated Imeta said in a post-race interview.

He also extended his hand of gratitude to his coach and management for the support they accorded him during his international outdoor tour.

“I want to encourage all the other upcoming athletes that anything is possible…they should just maintain discipline and hard work,” he said.

The 24-year-old kickstarted his outdoor campaign with a second-place finish at the second Athletics Kenya weekend meet where he ran his first ever sub-10 performance. He clocked 9.94 to cross the finish line behind Africa 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala.

He then went for his international tour in South Africa where he finished among the top five in the three races he competed in.

During the first ASA Grand Prix, he managed a fourth-place finish and improved that to a second-place finish during the second ASA Grand Prix. During the third edition of the event, he won the race.

Next in line for him will be the Kip Keino Classic competitions scheduled for Saturday, May 13 at the Moi International Sports Center in Kasarani.
