Athletics Kenya (AK) has released the calendar of events for the 2023/2024 season, which is packed with major local and international competitions.
This season's track and field activities have been brought forward to December this year to accommodate and allow for adequate preparations for the African Games, scheduled for March 8 to 23 in Accra Ghana, unlike in the previous years.

23-year-old Kelvin Kiptum has shared what it felt like to beat the man considered the 'greatest of all time.'
AK reported that the first leg of their Track and Field Weekend Series will be held in Kisumu on December 1 and 2 with a focus on sprints and field events followed by Thika which will be held on December 15 to 16 then, Embu, Nairobi, Kisii and Mombasa.
The track and field series will double up as AK relay meets in the run-up to the World Relay Championships in Nassau, Bahamas on May 4 and 5, next year.
The track and field weekend meetings will be preceded by the AK Cross Country Series, which commenced on October 14 at the Machakos People's Park.
Top performers in the cross-country weekend meetings stand a chance of selection into Team Kenya for the Sirikwa Classic Cross-Country Gold Tour scheduled for February 3 at the Lobo Village in Eldoret.
The third AK Track & Field Weekend Meeting will be used as trials for the Relay Series and Trials for the African Games.
There will also be other events including the National Police Service Police Track and Field Championships, Kenya Prisons Track and Field Championships, Kenya Defence Forces Track and Field Championships, and the National Athletics Championships. AK will also host the Trials for The XXXIII Olympic Games.

Ferdinand Omanyala has explained how many people did not believe in him when he wanted to defer his studies and focus on training.
The federation's technical committee is also evaluating applications for various local road races for the coming season and will release a calendar for the same as soon as the process is complete.
