Ferdinand Omanyala was in a class of his own as he showcased his prowess to dominate the men's 200m heats on day one of the third Athletics Kenya meet.

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala proved to be in the form of his life after blazing through the heats of the men’s 200m during the third Athletics Kenya meet held at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Omanyala opened his 2024 season with a 400m race at the second Athletics Kenya meet held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex earlier this month. At the event, he failed to impress and ended up finishing fifth in a time of 49.06.

He returned charged up and ready to take top honours in the 200m and the Commonwealth Games champion did not disappoint. He clocked 20.40 to win the race, successfully proceeding to the semifinal of the event.

Meanwhile, Mark Otieno was also in the mix, competing in the 100m where he destroyed a strong field to win his respective heat. Otieno now eyes the semifinal where he will be hoping to make a mark. 

Omanyala’s younger brother, Isaac Omurwa also stunned his opponents to take top honours in his heat and successfully proceeded to the semifinal to be held later today. 

Kisii Express Mary Moraa was also in action in the 400m and she wowed fans with her running skills that saw her clock the fastest time, 53.00 to win her heat. 

On her part, Rebecca Njeri Mwangi dominated the women’s 10,000m, stopping the clock at 34:14.29 as Monica Wanjiku and Nympha Kiteta finished second and third in respective times of 34:17.90 and 34:21.88. 

In the men’s 5000m, Shadrack Kipkurui took top honours in the race, winning in 14:09.29 as Samwel Ruoti and Joseph Ntimama finished second and third respectively.
