Ferdinand Omanyala has explained why this year's Olympic Games will be different for him in comparison to the time he made his debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala has opened up on why this year’s Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be special.

Omanyala will be making his second appearance on the global stage after making his debut at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The Commonwealth Games champion explained that things are very different at the moment since he did not qualify last minute unlike during the previous edition of the event. He also explained that this time around, he goes into the race as a favourite and not just any other sprinter.

“This time we are going into the Olympics as favourites per se…we are not going there as one of the guys who qualified last minute. So this time, it will be different,” Omanyala said.

As the countdown continues, he explained that he does not want to get ahead of himself and also avoid pressurizing himself.

With 91 days to go ahead of the global bonanza, he noted that there is a lot to be done in between as he looks to make a name for himself.

“We are getting closer to the Olympics but for me, this season is one step at a time. There is a lot that we are going to do in between those days. There’s no excitement and no pressure,” Omanyala said.

He competed in his first 100m race at the Kip Keino Classic held at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday, April 20 but faded to finish fifth in the race. America’s Kenneth Bednarek ended his dominance in the 100m as he took the crown.

However, Omanyala and his coach, Geoffrey Kimani, remain unfazed ahead of the Olympics and since it was only his first 100m race, there is time to work on the weaknesses.
