Speaking during a post-race interview, Omanyala disclosed that he had lost some kgs and is looking forward to enjoying an amazing 2024 season.
“It’s been the best three months of pre-season that I’ve had this year and I’ve never run a 20.40 before in January and that means that the endurance part is coming in good.
“With the weight gone down by 3kgs (89kg to 86kg) now I’m feeling comfortable running and hoping that we can build on that till the Olympic Games.
“This season I’m going into races with a different mindset and I want to execute everything as we have discussed with my coach,” Omanyala said.
He added that since he changed coaches, there have been notable differences and they have been working on different aspects including speed and endurance.
Omanyala changed coaches late last year, parting ways with Duncan Ayiemba, and started working with Kimani who has been putting in the effort to ensure the African record holder proves naysayers wrong this season.

ATHLETICS Mary Moraa's coach unfazed about competition from Keely Hodgkinson, Athing Mu
Coach Alex Sang has insisted that Mary Moraa's opponents, Keely Hodgkinson and Athing Mu are not his priority at the moment as he maintains focus on the world record.
“We have been working on minor aspects that we have been working on like the speed endurance and reducing the gym work…just doing what we are supposed to do.
“We are still maintaining the strength, so that I have the strength but I’m not bulky…that’s what we have been doing and hip mobility.
“That’s what we’ve been working on and that’s what we came to test here and I’m glad that I run the time we wanted to achieve,” Omanyala said.
