An epic showdown awaits Africa's fastest man in Jamaica as he is set to go up against a formidable field that includes Noah Lyles and Zharnel Hughes among other top sprinters.

The men’s 100m at the Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica will be one for the books since it has attracted some of the most decorated sprinters of all time.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 1 at the Jamaican National Stadium and it will witness epic rivalries being renewed. The talk of the town has been the men’s 100m race that is headlined by American Noah Lyles, the triple world champion.

Lyles, the two-time world 200m champion has already competed in two 100m races and will be looking to continue the winning streak when he heads to Jamaica. He opened his season at the Tom Jones Memorial and proceeded to the Bermuda Grand Prix, clocking an impressive 9.96 to cross the finish line.

He now heads to Jamaica with the hopes of impressing and posting great results. However, Africa 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala, in the hunt for his first 100m win of the season, will be hoping to stop the American.

Omanyala has from time to time explained that he is taking a different approach this season and doesn’t want to peak early in the season but as any other athlete, he will be in the hunt for a win or podium finish.

He opened the season at the Kip Keino Classic, finishing a disappointing fifth in the race won by American Kenny Bednarek. Omanyala then proceeded to the Atlanta City Games, where he finished second behind South Africa’s Akani Simbine.

Another challenger to Lyles will be Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes, the fastest man in Great Britain. The world 100m bronze medallist will be making his first appearance in the 100m, after enjoying a great outing in the 150m and 200m.

He was in action at the Atlanta City Games, competing in the 150m where he finished second behind Lyles and will be seeking revenge. He has also competed in the 200m twice and won, first at the Velocity Fest 14 and later proceeded to the Jamaica Athletics Invitational Meet.

He was in the 4x100m relay team at the World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas where his team finished fifth in the hotly contested race. Youngster Oblique Seville will also be looking to impress after claiming the 200m at the Atlanta City Games.

Canadian sprinter Aaron Brown, American Kendal Williams and another Jamaican, Kadrian Goldson have also been confirmed for the race.
