Ferdinand Omanyala's coach, Geoffrey Kimani, has opened up on the three key aspects that he has been working on with Africa's fastest man.

Ferdinand Omanyala’s coach, Geoffrey Kimani has opened up on the little aspects of the sprinter's training that he has refined.

Kimani, the strength and conditioning consultant for the National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOC-K), started working with Omanyala late last year and there have been notable changes in the African champion since then.

Kimani explained that he addressed Omanyala’s weight, his time in the gym, and his diet.

“There were some concerns about his bodywork and we knew there were issues that needed to be addressed. His weight was one of them and we needed to bring it down because he was running quite heavy.

"There were also issues about his training regimen and we needed to address issues about the time he spent in the weight room as well as some physical aspects like mobility,” Kimani said as per Capital Sport.

He added that sprinting is all about moving from one point to another and it requires an athlete to be very fast.

Kimani added that he has managed to change Omanyala’s training where he now spends more time on the track with less time spent lifting weights.

“Ideally his body type packs on weight fast. We had a sitting with him and his wife and we talked about performance nutrition which includes what he takes and at what time.

"There is no question about his physical ability. He is talented. But two things; nutrition and recovery need to be taken care of to open many opportunities,” Kimani added.
