Pulse Sports delves into five elite athletes set to dazzle at the Xiamen Diamond League on Saturday April 20 at Egret Stadium.

The 2024 Wanda Diamond League season is set to ignite the track and field world on April 20th, with Xiamen's Egret Stadium playing host to a dazzling array of sprint and hurdles talent.

This year's opener promises an explosive start to the season, featuring head-to-head clashes among the globe's elite athletes, all vying for early dominance on the road to the Paris Olympics.

Here are five stars whose performances are especially anticipated.

Tobi Amusan

Nigeria's hurdles sensation and reigning Diamond League champion, Tobi Amusan, is at the forefront of athletes to watch.

After setting a breathtaking world record in the 100m hurdles in 2022, Amusan showed no signs of slowing down, recently clinching the African Games title.

Her title defense in Xiamen will be against formidable opponents, including the Jamaican world champion Danielle Williams and Puerto Rico's Olympic gold medalist, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn.

Amusan's record-breaking prowess and fierce competitiveness set the stage for a thrilling showdown.

Christian Coleman

The men's 100m will see American sprinter Christian Coleman, the 2019 world champion, kickstart his Diamond Trophy defense.

Coleman has fond memories of Xiamen where he clocked a world-leading 9.83 last year.

Facing off against him will be Fred Kerley, the 2022 world 100m champion, and Jamaican powerhouses Yohan Blake and Ackeem Blake.

Coleman's exceptional indoor season highlighted by winning his second world indoor title with a time of 6.41 hints at another electrifying performance.

Sha'Carri Richardson

In the women's 200m, all eyes will be on Sha'Carri Richardson, the American sprinter known for her prowess in the 100m but equally formidable in the 200m.

Richardson narrowly missed securing her first Diamond Trophy last year but demonstrated her 200m capabilities by securing a bronze in Budapest with a personal best of 21.92.

Her participation sets up a fascinating battle against other sub-22-second sprinters, promising a race brimming with speed and intensity.

Marileidy Paulino

Dominican Republic's Marileidy Paulino, the reigning 400m Diamond League champion, returns to the scene of her 2022 triumph.

Paulino's astonishing 49.63 in Xiamen last year propelled her to the series title, marking her as a dominant force in the 400m.

With a rematch of last year's World Athletics Championships final on the cards, Paulino's clash with Poland's Natalia Kaczmarek and Sada Williams of Barbados is eagerly awaited.

Devynne Charlton

Rounding out the list is Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, the latest world indoor 60m hurdles champion.

Charlton's world indoor record of 7.65 in Glasgow underscores her rising status in the hurdles world.

Her transition to outdoor racing is highly anticipated, with the hurdles field in Xiamen providing a perfect platform to showcase her talents against the world's best.
