The athlete went against the norm as she asked for her boyfriend’s hand in marriage shortly after setting a new European record at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

French athlete Alice Finot warned the hearts of fans at the Paris Olympics as she went on her knee to propose to her boyfriend.

In what is seen as a preserve of men, Finot went against the grain, asking for her boyfriend’s hand in marriage shortly after the women’s 3,000m steeplechase on Tuesday night.

After finishing the race, the 32-year-old went towards the stands where her boyfriend was standing alongside other fans.

She seemed to have a tag hidden inside her nameplate on the vest and she pulled it out to propose to her man, drawing applause from the watching supporters.

It later emerged that Finot had vowed to propose to her boyfriend if she managed to run under nine minutes in the steeplechase final at the Paris Olympics.

As it out, she clocked 8:58.57 to finish fourth in the race, a new European record, and missed out on a medal by just under three seconds.

The race was won by Kenyan-born Bahraini Winfred Yavi in a new Olympics record of 8:52.76 as Ugandan Peruth Chemutai clocked 8:53.34, a new national record, for sliver medal with Kenya’s Faith Cherotich completing the podium.

Cherotich won bronze in a personal best time of 8:55.15 in what was a fast race.

Finot’s boyfriend said yes, setting the stage for a wedding after the Paris Games.

The City of Love has witnessed a number of proposals with several athletes engaged at the Olympics.

A day before the Olympics Opening Ceremony, handball player Pablo Simonet proposed to field hockey team member Maria Campoy while French skiff sailing partners Sarah Steyaert and Charline Picon got engaged last Friday.

Chinese badminton player Liu Yu Chen also proposed to her girlfriend Huang Ya Qiong on Saturday before US rower Justin Best got engaged to former Irish dancer Lainey Duncan on Monday.

Meanwhile, shot putter Payton Otterdahl proposed to his girlfriend Maddy Nilles, in front of the Eiffel Tower last Sunday.
