Glasgow 2024: Julien Alfred storms to historic 60m gold to become St Lucia's first World Champion

A simply stunning run from Julien Alfred saw her claim the 60m World title in Glasgow, thus becoming St Lucia's first ever World Champion.

Julien Alfred proved her superiority in the women's 60m event, storming to an outstanding world-leading time of 6.98s to become the World Indoor Champion in Glasgow.

Alfred overcame a poor start, running down a quality field to earn her historic moment as St Lucia's first-ever gold medal winner in any event.

Polish speedster Ewa Swoboda, who ran 6.98s in the semis and was a top favourite before the final, settled for the silver medal in 7.00s, while Zaynab Dosso held on for Italy to win her first-ever world medal in 7.05s.

A remarkable moment for Alfred who was a standout college athlete for the University of Texas, was unbeaten in the 60m throughout the 2023 season, and has now continued that run to the world stage for her country.
