Namwamba revealed that they requested Athletics Kenya to come up with a list of all athletes whose dues had not been cleared.
For quite some time, local athletes have been lamenting that their dues have not been settled when they raise the country’s flag high in international events like the World Championships and African Games.
One notable example of an athlete who took his bitter rant to Facebook was 2015 World javelin champion Julius Yego who lamented that athletes who represented the country at the 2022 Africa Senior Athletics Championships were not paid their dues and was requesting the Sports CS Ababu Namwamba to address the issue.

In a post, he said: “It’s such a shame to a country known around and celebrated in athletics to pay such to its athletes.
"It has also to be noted that in some championships in the calendar of athletics, some athletes have never been paid their medal rewards.

However, these cries are soon coming to an end since Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has promised that all athletes will be paid their pending dues.
