20-year-old Grace Loibach will lead a formidable team Kenya to the Africa Cross-country Championships later this month.
Athletics Kenya has selected a team of 30 athletes and officials who will represent the country at the Africa Cross Country Championship that will take place on February 25 in Hammamet town in Tunisia.
Grace Loibach headlines the field of the senior women’s 10km race and she will enjoy the company of compatriots Cintia Chepngeno, Sandrafelis Chebet, and Virginia Nyambura. Gladys Kwamboka and Caren Chebet have also been selected.
Loibach will be hoping to extend her hot streak to the continental showpiece. The 20-year-old opened her 2024 season with a third-place finish at the 80th Elgoibar Juan Muguerza International Cross Country. She then went ahead to finish sixth in 33:55 at the Sirikwa Classic Cross-country.

Reigning World Half Marathon silver medallist Daniel Simiu has given hints that he might miss the World Cross-country Championships in March.

Leading the men’s field will be Fredrick Domongole who won the Nandi Barngetuny Memorial Mountain Run. Domongole will also be looking to extend his winning streak after a great start to his season.
Others selected to compete at the event include Naibei Kiplimo, Vincent Langat, Robert Kiprop, Brian Kiptoo, and Vincent Kimaiyo.
The women’s under-20 team will include Diana Chepkemoi, Sheila Jebet, and Judy Kemunto. Nancy Cherop, Lucy Nduta, and Sharon Chepkemoi have also been included.

Eliud Kipchoge might be eyeing to reclaim the marathon world record since he has shared what he expects at the Tokyo Marathon.
The men’s team will be led by Titus Kiprotich, Gideon Kipngetich and Clinton Kimutai. Simon Maywa, Joseph Njoroge and Joash Ruto have also been selected in the junior team.
The relay team will be led by Japan-based Mirriam Cherop and Evaline Chepkoech. Winfred Mbithe, Edwin Kiprono, Victor Kipkurui and Newton Cheruiyot complete the team.
The team will go to a residential training camp on Sunday, February 11 at Watakatifu Wote in Ngong.
