The fastest man in Great Britain has opened up on his dreams of emulating the fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt, and how working with the legend's coach has been of great help
The fastest man in Great Britain, Zharnel Hughes, has revealed plans to emulate the world’s fastest man Usain Bolt of Jamaica.
Hughes ended the 2023 season as the fastest man in the world after clocking 9.83 to win the 2023 USATF NYC Grand Prix.

From training with Bolt’s coach Glen Mills, Hughes is keen on emulating the eight-time Olympic champion and following in his footsteps as he looks to cement his name among the greatest sprinters of all time.

As per Daily Mail, Hughes refers to his coach as the man who masterminded Usain Bolt’s rise to becoming the fastest man on the planet.
“I think it was in November, he shouted me out on my friends’ FaceTime call. He was like ‘Yo Zharnel, I saw you man keeping up the good things, happy to see you doing well man so big up yourself'," Hughes said.
“I don't really ask ‘Coach, is this the same work you used to give to Usain?’ I've never done that. I just trust his work ethic because the guy is one of the greatest coaches out there and he's proven that. He's been there, done that. I'm just happy and honoured to be in his training group.
“I'd say the work has definitely been intensified. I think we are ahead of where we thought we would have been. My fitness is much better than last season so slowly the progress is going on. I'm asking coach what he is on… ‘Are you trying to kill me?’ But he's saying the work is just about to start. So, I'm trusting his process and so far everything has been going pretty good."
Hughes will also be keen on making an impact at the Olympic Games in Paris, France, following his bronze medal at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. He admitted that he already has plans but he prefers having them private for now.
“Things have been written down but I usually try to keep them private for now. The goals have been set long before New Year's Resolutions came about. Everything has been going accordingly so far," he added.
