Letesenbet Gidey ties knot with longtime partner Fesseha Kiros amidst 10,000m world record loss
Letesenbet Gidey married in a grand ceremony amid losing her 10,000m world record to Kenya's Beatrice Chebet.
“She was happy and told me that I’m the best and added that I’m a strong woman,” Chebet said, adding that in such an event, it is always good for every athlete to accept the outcome.
The former world silver medallist added it is always a pleasure competing against Tsegay because it has helped achieve great career milestones.
During last year’s Prefontaine Classic, which was the Diamond League Meeting final, Tsegay was going for Faith Kipyegon’s world record and she managed to smash it, clocking 14:00.21 to cross the finish line. At the time, Chebet clocked a personal best time of 14:05.92 to cross the finish line second.
“I am always happy to race with her because when I race with Gudaf, I can run a personal best time and I’m always able to run a good race. Sometimes it’s good to race with such good friends,” Chebet said.
She now goes back to the drawing board to focus on the 5000m and 10,000m where she intends to double at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
